Shimbashi Soba, Paragon @ Lunch

The day after a big event normally leads to lethargy and the general rebellion at work. The amount of energy spent on prepping the event hall, scripting and dry run of the next day's presentation literally knocks us out cold when we reach home.

Instead of feeling the after effects of euphoria and cries of "It is over!!" and us wearing the carpet down from constant pacing since now we are back to our usual jobs, we headed out to Paragon. We wanted an excuse to get away from the office anyway. After dallying on choosing a place to eat, "Warung M Nasir, why you no have table for 6?!" we settled on Shimbashi Soba, the place where you can literally see soba made right in front of you.

Actually there is a glass window where a soba chef demonstrates his skill for all to see at peak hours. Oh soba chef, grace me with chewy, springy noodles!

Shimbashi Soba at Paragon Shopping Centre has set lunches *we are poor office workers* ranging from SGD16.80 to SGD31.20 (before GST). The portions are quite decent and very filling. Of course there are cheaper Japanese lunches out there on Orchard Road but since it was our self-reward, we decided to "splurge". If those prices are for the set lunches, imagine the prices for dinner O_O

This is actually my second visit to the shop but my first during lunch. We had to wait around 15 minutes before a table was available as the place was packed to the brim. During my first visit, I went with the onsen egg and warm soba. Boy, soba and its broth were excellent! I wanted more after my dinner there but as mentioned, it is not a cheap place to dine in for soba.

Most lunch set comes with a noodle dish and a rice dish. It's not half a serving of each like some other places would give you but it is a single serving each meant for a healthy adult.  Every set comes with Japanese styled  salad and pickles. We had pickled Chinese White Cabbage. Yum meh...

Did I ever mention that I lurrve udon? Ramen is way too commercialized and it always reminds me of wantan mee. *Ramen lovers are probably preparing stones to cast at me*
Teriyaki Chicken Don
Chicken Katsu Don
Hana Shokado
Elffie's lunch was one of those on the higher end of the lunch set options. Since he missed out his date with the wine spirits the night before, this spread will have to do. When it came, only one collective sound could be heard at the table "WAHHHH..."

The noodles be it soba or udon held the bounce and not overcooked. Heads bent as in prayer with silence spread across the table as everyone concentrated slurping away at the soup base and their respective noodles.

Don't count on great service here. The staff are overworked with a minimal team of serving staff. Be patient to wait for your food and your bill. Food is a must to taste. Do not leave before you have taken the requisite slurp.

This lunch set promotion is ONLY available at PARAGON. I don't want people writing to me about why other branches do not have this goodness. Other Shimabashi branches carries a different promotion.

*P.S : Spur of moment lunch decision so had to make do with phone cameras*
