KHA

We passed a inconspicuous signboard at No.38 Martin Road. There were a few people going into the establishment and we were stumped as to whether there was a private party going on for the condo residents. Upon further inspection, we realised that it is KHA at its new adobe.

We decided on the spot that this would be his dinner treat. The healthy expat community was talking up a storm inside. Given the modern yet intimate dinner designed by Hecker Guthrie, one feels like they walked into a residential showroom instead of an upmarket Thai restaurant.

Lighted antique cupboards lining the walls doubled up as a place where the ladies could keep their bags. I thought that this was a nice touch to have practical yet chic furniture. Goldfish bowls placed on top of these cupboards gave the cupboards characters. Life on top of death leads to much contemplation.

Since we only had 2 in a party, we were shown a small table, which restricted us from ordering too much as well. Eating with Panda tend to lead to excess. The prices listed were surprisingly reasonable. I had prepared myself to see fried rice going for SGD30.

The restaurant boasts quite drink selection but we decided to go with plain old H2O in order to really taste those exquisite spices found in Thai cooking. We had:
  • Wok-fried soft shell crab with quail egg, garlic, chilli, peanut sauce topped off with cucumber.
  • Kheaw Wan Gai (Green chicken curry, apple, eggplant and coconut flesh) (SGD27)
  • Pad Pak (Fried mixed vegetables) (SGD8)
  • Khao Pad Subparod (Pineapple seafood fried rice) (SGD16)

The portions were enough for 2 to share. Not too spicy as I guess they cater more for the expats who lived around that area. If there is one thing on the list that you want to try, make it the soft shell crab. I don't know what this soft shell crab was eating but it was enormous!

We didn't choose the white Jasmine rice (SGD4) but it is free flow. A waiter will come and spoon it onto your plates. For the health concious ones, there is also an option for brown rice for the same price.
Vegetarians out there, fret not! You will not be excluded from this dining experience as there is a vegetarian menu ^.^

To end our lovely meal, we had grilled mango cheeks with lychee sorbet drizzled with mango sauce (Caramel Ma Muang Suk) (SGD12)
