Lunch Instead @ Ficelle Boulangerie Patisserie, Tmn Desa

I'm sure quite many has been to Ficelle Boulangerie by now and many has raved about their pastries. In almost every post I see the word "brunch" but where are those scrambled eggs at?! Like bacon, toast, frittatas! With the low brunch availability in KL, could Ficelle Boulangerie fill the gap?

That's why I'm heading to a bakery for brunch *also 'cos HY said he would drive*... I was told that they served food. Food at bakery = brunch. Where else would you serve those buttered croissants?

When we reached, we saw the al-fresco dining was quite full. People were digging away at plates of food. Anticipation of a decent meal started to build. There is no indoor dining at Ficelle as the bakery took up all the space. Orders are self-service at the bakery's payment counter.

3 newly emptied tables caught our attention so we hurried inside to make our order. HY was already thinking about his English Breakfast. I was thinking about yellow runny eggs.

We looked at the menu. No brunch menu! Breakfast was until 10.30am! We turned to the cashier. The answer was negative. Disappointed max. We ordered lunch food instead. HY ordered the special of the day - chicken set with some sort of Japanese twist in it *at least that is what it said on the menu*. I went with chicken mushroom carbonara. There is a belief that you have to get your basics right before moving up the ladder. If chicken carbonara is on the menu, that should be a staple to get right.
While we were waiting to be served, I realised that the staff were quite slow in cleaning the tables. There were 4 uncleaned tables compared to 3 when when we went in to order. The staff were milling about and not proactive in getting the tables tidy.  Customers would sit at a dirty table and try to get the waiting staff's attention. Helllooooo staff, do you see waving crazy lady?

When HY's mystery chicken dish came, we were looking for the mushroom soup that was part of the set. You know, like a BOWL? So, we asked the waitress, "Excuse me but where's the soup?" She pointed to a ramekin. Soup in a ramekin? O_o
The chicken was cold and after trying, we couldn't find anything Japanese about it. My chicken mushroom carbonara on the other hand was quite alright. The sauce was too watery for me but they got the  taste right.

By the way, the usual latte? If you are alright with ambiguous coffee with steamed milk plopped in served in an over-sized glass, then go for it.

I guess my search for a good value for money brunch place goes on.
