An Adelaide Wedding + Sorta Solo Trip 5d4n (Day 2,3) - Wedding & Exploring sleepy Marden

Day 2

Wedding day! In short, I spent the day helping around, entertaining the bride and basically helped sort out the miscellaneous things that the couple did not have time to do due to hosting family and friends from far and near.

Day 3

I decided to sleep in a bit before wandering around Marsden. I didn't want to disturb the couple from the night before, with the after party and possible hangover for the copious ingestion of wine. The cold winds and bright skies was a great weather for a stroll.

Down the street from my current accomodation, a small commercial area existed. Having lived in Melbourne for a bit in my younger years, I thought there would be some shops where I could wander around and get a bite. Boy, was I wrong... It was a Sunday. The only thing that was open at the commercial area was the grocery store, booze shop and the pharmacy. The complex actually housed around 20 shops but none were open!
Cheap beetroots!
The grocery store staff must have wondered what was this strange Asian girl wandering along the aisles, reading box labels. I picked up some local produce and left to round out some grub.

Seriously, nothing was open....not even the sandwich joint. I ended up in a bakery having some angel cake across the road. It was the only thing open. *facepalm*
Angel cake was really good.
My friends came to take me out for dinner that night. I was actually quite prepared to do a cup noodle thing but they thought that was just sad. I really didn't want to bother them considering it was the day after their wedding but they insisted.

We stopped by a random Bracegirdles to get our chocolate fix. For the uninitiated, Bracegirdles is an artisan chocolate boutique mainly located in the Adelaide area. Imagine going into a candy shop.. well, chocolate shop and getting dazzled by the selection.
A part of the chocolate selection

We got cat called by a few Aussie nuckleheads when we were getting out of the store. *roll-eyes* They drove up in a truck and starting spouting random Mandrin phrases at all. It was really ironic as I was with the Australians Chinese (born and bred there).

Dinner was at a gyros/yiros place which belonged to a friend of the groom. I'm sure if you have passed a middle eastern or Greek eatery, you can see huge hunks of meat on a big vertical spit? Gyros is a dish where the meat is shaved off that big hunk, placed in a pita, topped off with cabbage, onion, and tomato. The groom's family all stopped by when we were there so it turned into another family dinner.

We headed for dessert at another part of town to a place called Spats Coffee House, The locals in our group swear that Spats serves the best brandy snap basket. It was the first time I have tried the basket. It's like a bigger, boozy version of those pai tee shells. Ice cream and strawberries make up the filling. I don't really have a sweet tooth so I didn't like it that much. Instead, I had a chocolate  cream gateau cake with chamomile tea.

Spats is very dimly lighted. It feels like a place with secrets. Maybe it's for those people who want to cosy up and share their food. Bad lighting means horrible photos. No matter how I edited the brandy snap photo I still couldn't quite make it out.
